As an educator with over two decades of experience, Lori has been a tireless advocate for at-risk youth, ensuring they have the tools and support to realize their full potential. She is the proud recipient of multiple prestigious accolades, including 2024-2025 “Student Support Specialist of the Year” for her school and “2024-2025 Middle School Educational Support Specialist of the Year” for the entire DeKalb County School District. She was also honored with the “I Am A Difference Maker Award” for her unwavering dedication to students, schools, and the broader community.

Dr. Hanford believes education must go beyond the classroom. Her philosophy centers on holistic support, forging strong partnerships between families, schools, and local organizations to address academic, socio-emotional, and practical barriers. She has dedicated her career to creating these bridges, believing deeply that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to a quality education and the opportunity to thrive.

Her commitment to service is unmatched. Lori has been recognized with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for completing over 5,000 hours of community service. She also holds an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Trinity International University, a testament to her exceptional impact on her community and beyond. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she actively contributes to service initiatives, uplifting marginalized communities.

As a passionate mentor, Lori has spent over 7 years volunteering with the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation and 4 years with The Girls Who Brunch Tour, dedicating countless hours to empowering youth. From the Steve Harvey Camp for Young Men and the Marjorie Harvey’s Girls Who Rule The World Camp for Girls to local Girls Who Brunch events, she brings empathy, guidance, and a genuine belief in every young person’s potential.
